Today's Melbourne

20-storey towers approved for Melbourne's inner north

The state government has locked in its final planning controls for 25 activity centres across Melbourne, clearing the way for high-rise development in the inner north. The maps include some tweaks — lower height limits in parts of Kew and Oakleigh, but higher towers approved elsewhere. It's all part of the push to increase density around transport hubs.

Tap-and-go comes to four Melbourne train lines Monday

Say goodbye to Myki — at least on four lines. Commuters on the Craigieburn, Upfield, Ballarat and Seymour lines will be the first to trial tap-and-go technology from Monday. It's been a long time coming, and if all goes well, the rest of the network will follow.

The Power of a Good Night's Sleep

Adults over 60 who consistently get 7-8 hours of sleep have sharper memory and lower inflammation. If you're waking during the night, try keeping your bedroom cool (around 18°C), avoiding screens an hour before bed, and keeping a consistent wake-up time — even on weekends.
